Schmetz Universal Needles are basic sewing machine needles for domestic, household sewing machines.
They have the standard domestic needle fitting having one flat side at the shank (Top) of the needle and manufactured with a standard slightly rounded point which allows this type to sew the vast majority of general fabrics and materials.
Schmetz universal needles are available in various sizes (cross sectional diameter). Sizes start from 60nm (0.6mm thickness) up to 110nm (1.1mm thickness).
The size you require is basically dependant on the weight or material thickness. For fine, thin materials use a thinner needle and for thicker, heavy materials use a thicker, wider needle. For ease of identification Schmetz stamp the needle size on the shank of every needle they manufacture.
