How\u00a0is\u00a0Freezer Paper used in quilting?<\/h3>\n

Freezer paper has a thin plastic layer on one side of the paper which when lightly heated with an iron sticks to the fabric you iron it onto. After you have finished using the \u00a0paper you can easily peel it straight off the fabric.<\/p>\n

Because the adhesion isn’t too strong the paper doesn’t leave residue on the fabric whilst still providing a strong seal if you are painting or dyeing over the stencil preventing any leaks into your design!<\/p>\n

What is Freezer Paper used for?<\/h3>\n

Useful for arts and crafts, can also be used for templates to applique, quilt or piecing.\u00a0Can be lightly adhered onto fabric by using an iron.\u00a0Instructions for craft use included on the packaging \u2013 or see below.<\/p>\n

Multi Talented<\/h3>\n

Originally intended for helping to preserve food during freezing Freezer Paper has been adopted for a host of creative uses most notably quilting templates because of its brilliant qualities.<\/p>\n

As a template creator Freezer Paper is superb. You can trace designs onto the paper cut out around the shape then iron on to your fabric. This not only allows you to create accurate and neat shapes by following the drawn design but also stabilises your fabric whilst\u00a0cutting.<\/p>\n

Draw or trace your quilting design onto the matt side of freezer paper, then cut out your design and iron the shiny side to fix it to the fabric.The freezer paper provides a leak proof seal around your design perfect for dyeing and painting fabric designs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cut out your fabric around the entire design, allowing approx 1\/4\u2033 seam allowance.\u00a0Fold the fabric seam allowance under the freezer paper and stitch the applique onto the background fabric.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leave a small area un stitched \u2013 this then allows you to pull out the freezer paper from within the applique.<\/span><\/p>\n

Use With Your Printer<\/h3>\n

Freezer Paper is versatile and strong enough to be fed through a printer meaning designs can be printed direct from you PC on to the paper to create templates.<\/p>\n

The other use with a printer is to stabilise fabrics while you ink jet on to them. For example iron an A4 piece of Calico to the same size piece of Freezer Paper. This makes the calico firm enough to be fed through a printer. Naturally this technique could be used across a host of fabrics and Vilenes.<\/p>\n
