Project Linus
Project Linus is a 100% volunteer organisation whose aims are:
1) To provide a sense of security and comfort to sick and traumatised babies, children and teenagers through the provision of new home made patchwork quilts and knitted / crocheted blankets;
2) To give an opportunity for needlewomen across the UK to contribute to their local community.
How Empress Helps: We regularly host our own knitting club, providing both the venue as well as a tutor all the yarns needed. All finished items are donated to the Project.
We also offer special prices for Quilt waddings, Threads, Craft Fabrics etc. to all project Linus Groups and members - reducing the cost of their valuable work as much as possible. |

Pendlesie Hospice
A local charity meeting the needs of people with cancer or life-threatening illnesses in the Burnley and Pendle area.
The purpose of a hospice is to improve the quality of life for its patients. This is achieved by medical and specialist nursing care, and the provision of social, emotional and spiritual support for the patient and their family and carers.
Care is given unconditionally and free of charge to adults who need it regardless of religious or cultural belief.
How Empress Helps: This is a truly fantastic organisation, once again, due to personal experience this has become close to our hearts. We regularly contribute raffle prizes, Product Discounts for patient craft classes, Christmas card sales etc. Rosalyn, one of our staff holds Garden Parties which we support through publicity and obviously all attend (mainly for her fantastic home cooking)

Marie Curie Nurses
Marie Curie Nurses provide free nursing care to cancer patients and those with other terminal illnesses in their own homes.
Research commissioned by Marie Curie Cancer Care shows that 64 per cent of people would choose to die at home. In reality only 25 per cent achieve this.
Marie Curie Nurses make that wish possible for thousands of cancer patients in cities, towns and villages across the UK.
The Nurses now care for around 50 per cent of all cancer patients who die at home. They work through the night or during the day to provide care for patients in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their own home.
The nurses also provide much appreciated support for families and carers at what can be an exhausting and obviously difficult time. Marie Curie Nursing is always free of charge to patients and carers.
How Empress Helps: As you may have guessed we beleive the service provided by this organisation is amazing and much needed. We help through fundraising (to support the 2700 healthcare proffesionals involved) and again are actively seeking other ways we can help (particularly Charles & William planning a run or swim as yet undecided)

Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity
GOSH Charity raises money to enable Great Ormond Street Hospital to provide world-class care for its young patients and their families and to pioneer new treatments and cures for childhood illness by:
Contributing to the rebuilding and refurbishment of the hospital; Funding the most up-to-date equipment; Supporting research into, and development of, breakthrough treatments; and Providing accommodation and other support services for children and their families
The charity aims to raise £50m a year in order to ensure the work of the hospital can continue.
How Empress Helps: At the moment we provide a venue for a small sales area of sweets and chocolate (proceeds to the charity) and although not a massive contribution we work on the principal of 'every little helps'. |
